Pregnancy can result in a substantial amount of physical changes as your body grows and adapts to carry new life. At Inner Dynamics Physical Therapy, we want to help make this monumental time of your life as easy of a transition as possible.
Pelvic physical therapy during the prepartum and postpartum stages can treat the potential discomfort and difficulties that emerge.
Prepartum dysfunctions commonly seen include low back pain, lower extremity pain, hip tightness, pelvic girdle pain, leakage, swelling and difficulty with overall mobility. Interventions can also be used prepartum to improve the delivery process by preparing the perineal region for birth. Postpartum concerns commonly seen include low back pain, perineal pain, scar pain, leakage, difficulty resuming activities such as exercising, sex or household chores, and core weakness. A pelvic physical therapist can manage and reduce your physical symptoms by addressing postural changes, body mechanics, strength impairments and muscle tissue changes related to your concerns. Some new mothers notice after giving birth a thinning or separation of the abdominal wall called a diastasis recti abdominis that can be addressed with a pelvic physical therapist as well. Throughout all stages, we will perform a musculoskeletal examination to identify what structures are affected by your symptoms, and then devise an individualized treatment plan to help you improve your daily function and restore your overall well-being.
