Balance and gait impairments can make it difficult to walk steadily, navigate uneven surfaces, or feel confident during everyday activities. A vestibular physical therapist will evaluate how your balance and walking are affected by factors such as vestibular function, strength, coordination, head movement, and visual input.
Your evaluation may include assessing:
- Walking pattern and gait stability
- Static and dynamic balance
- Balance with head movements
- Eye, head, and gaze coordination
- Walking while turning or changing direction
- Balance on different surfaces or in reduced-vision environments
- Fall risk and functional mobility
Treatment is individualized to your specific needs and may include gait and balance training, such as walking with head turns, changing speeds, turning, stepping over obstacles, and navigating different surfaces. The goal is to improve stability, confidence, and safety during everyday movement.
