The beginning of Inner Dynamics Physical Therapy

Many physical therapy clinics treat neck, back, or knee problems, but where do you go when you have pelvic dysfunction? Inner Dynamics Physical Therapy (IDPT) is a new state-of-the-art pelvic health and wellness center that provides specialized care for those that suffer from pelvic pain, bladder and bowel issues, reproductive difficulties, sexual dysfunction, and prenatal and postpartum issues. IDPT also treats sacroiliac, coccyx, and hip dysfunction, along with other orthopedic conditions. Located off Route 35 in Ocean, NJ, IDPT is a large facility with several private treatment rooms and a fully equipped gym.

IDPT co-owners Dr. Alison Ankiewicz and Dr. Tamra Wroblesky are two Monmouth county natives whose own medical struggles guided them along a healthcare path.

As a child, Dr. Ankiewicz suffered from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia for many years. She ultimately conquered her cancer with the help of her family and health care providers. This led her to volunteer in high school and care for a young boy who was a quadriplegic. She worked side by side with physical therapists helping Terrence improve his mobility and reduce his pain. These experiences shaped her life and led her to receive her doctorate in physical therapy, with a special focus on pelvic floor and women’s health issues.

For the past 15 years, Dr. Ankiewicz has established a strong rapport with the central NJ and Jersey shore community and health care professionals. She has worked closely with gynecologists, urologists, gastroenterologists, and surgeons to provide superior and individualized patient care. In addition to her clinical practice, Alison was an adjunct professor at Columbia University for 10 years in pelvic  and women’s health, and continues to serve as a guest lecturer for several university’s physical therapy programs. She has also published several articles for her community and lectured at local hospitals on the importance of pelvic health.

Dr. Tamra Wroblesky’s path to becoming a physical therapist began when she developed pelvic pain her freshman year of college. Her personal experience with pelvic floor therapy led her to develop an award winning health blog entitled Sky-Circles, which prompted the rise of an online support community for those with similar issues. Over the course of 6 years, she had several treatments and surgeries, including two repairs of her right and left hip labrum due to large tears and bone spurs. Tamra was captain of her collegiate tennis team and was frustrated by the lack of preventative care she received as a female athlete. She was also frustrated by the lack of pelvic health physical therapists in her area. During her extensive commute to New York, she vowed to specialize in pelvic and women’s health so others would have easier access to quality care.

While getting her doctorate in physical therapy, Tamra chose her final residency in pelvic health with Dr. Ankiewicz, who was practicing out of a local physical therapy office. Over this past summer, they bonded over their shared passions and dedication to expanding public awareness of less talked about issues and decided to open Inner Dynamics Physical Therapy.

“I knew it was time to provide the pelvic floor community with the care they deserved,” explained Dr. Ankiewicz. “I had so many patients who needed help, so I knew by opening a center with Tamra that we could accommodate more patients and offer them more treatment time. These men and women typically suffer from embarrassing or painful issues that affect their quality of life. We now have the facility and personal care from highly skilled therapists to reach out to those suffering and regain their quality of life.”

Alison’s clinical experience, along with Tamra’s personal experience allow for a dynamic entrepreneurial match.

They are both active members of the American Physical Therapy Association and Section on Women’s Health, as well as leaders in the National and NJ chapter. In a few short weeks, they have made their home for IDPT in Ocean Township, offering one-on-one care in a safe and nurturing environment. Their office manager Heather McConnell is also a Jersey shore local who can schedule appointments and answer any questions patients might have over the phone.

“I continue to have new patients come in not knowing there was physical therapy for their constipation, incontinence, or post-partum weakness and diastasis recti,” explains Dr. Wroblesky. “My patients have suffered for years with pain or functional limitations because they did not know where to go. My hope now is to offer a place for those with weakness or pain to come and get the help they need.”

Inner Dynamics Physical Therapy is now accepting new patients and has both early morning and evening appointments available. Call or visit our website at innerdynamicspt.com to find out more about this exciting new pelvic health facility in the Ocean Township community.
